How should we handle game patches?

Last I checked, you can delete patches and updates on Wii U and 3DS. What if these patches greatly alter the balance or remove things? We, as a community, will inevitably be divided on wether to use the patches or not.

I'm all for using them, as I'll probably be an online player and patches will be required when playing online.
